Teaching a Literature Study
For this assignment, I had to design five different instructional approaches to the young adult novel The Last Days by Scott Westerfeld:
1. Grammar. How you would teach English grammar in the service of understanding the text (for instance, how language patterns might be used to characterize or to create a setting or atmosphere)?
2. Vocabulary. How you would teach appropriate vocabulary in the service of understanding the text (for instance, to understand an important theme or aspect of characterization)?
3. Critical Lens #1. How you would use Reader Response as a critical lens for approaching or understanding the text?
4. Critical Lens #2. How you would use a different critical lens for approaching or understanding the text?
5. Writing Assessment. How you would use the text to prepare students for a writing assessment?
